What the FAQ?
Here you can find the most frequently asked questions about group classes. Have a question that you don’t see here? Submit your questions here.
Where do in person classes take place?
50 Brooklyn Ave. Massapequa in a community space called Retreat Space. This is where I rent out space for my private business and group classes. The entrance is on the side of the building and it is across the street from the side of the fire house. You can park in the back lot, on the side of the building and depending on the time - the train station parking lot. Just make sure to check signs around you. Then come up the stairs and I will be there waiting!
What level of experience do you need?
None. It’s more about an open mind, and the willingness to give it a shot and learn. If you’re feeling really uncomfortable, unsure, or have specific conditions or injuries I do offer 1:1 support through a 6 week private beginner series.
With the go at your pace class do you just go in and start or does it begin and end together?
Thursday evening class we start and end together. Saturday Mysore class, if we have a few people together at 10am it can be nice to chant Om and the opening mantra together - but then you continue on your own practice. Everyone starts with sun salutations.
Can you drop in to classes? Yes, and no lol. It can be helpful to sign up ahead of time just in case I need to update you on any changes or last minute emergencies. On Thursday’s we are in a smaller room where I cap class at 6 students. So it’s not required, but recommended. Saturday’s we are in the bigger room and have room for 20 students so at this time you can drop in at the last minute.
Is there a virtual option?
Yes there is, for both weekly classes. Please set yourself up so I can have a good view of you on your mat, and register for class at least an hour before to make sure you get the link and allowing time for troubleshooting.
Are there packages? There is an intro package of 3 classes for $60 , a savings of $15, that you can purchase here. Then there is a 10 pack for $210 that you can purchase here.
What if I don’t have the poses memorized or am not familiar with the sequence? Not a problem. I am there to support you, and I also have handouts that you can borrow for the duration of class. I will also include the fundamentals below to give you a head start.
Can I be late? Thursday’s please be on time at 7pm, I will be there at 6:45pm and you’re welcome to join me and take some extra time to get settled and meditate, or ask any questions. On Saturday’s you can come as late as 10:45 to start your practice. Cool right? Whether you’re running late or just prefer a 10:30 start time you will just come in, set up your mat and get started.
Do I have to stay the whole time for Mysore go at your pace class? I see it’s 2 hours.
No! Most people stay between 1 and 1.5 hours. You choose how long your savasana is, and then you’re welcome to take some extra time to meditate if you have the time. It’s a peaceful environment.
Are you now Ashtanga Yoga Long Island? I love Ashtanga Yoga Long Island dearly, as it was my home studio, and where I received a lot of my training from my teacher Aura - but I have built my own business and to avoid confusion I am keeping everything under the umbrella name of Lauren R. Yoga. But think of this as an Ashtanga Yoga Long Island program under that umbrella. We will see where the future takes us! I have a lot of ideas and plans, and a packed schedule, so as time goes on I will trickle things out and look forward to sharing with you here.
More to come, promise!
